A retreat to Mpumalanga and the Drakensberg
Back home, I have learned that I function better and people can tolerate me if I spend a few days away in silence and solitude every 6 months or so. So after 7 months here in South Africa, I was overdue and I could feel it. I had my team drop me off in Mpumalanga (a region about 4 hours east of Pretoria), and they continued on to visit Iris Ministries’ orphanages in Maputo, Mozambique. Go to Mamelodi Stories to see their pics/stories. In the meantime, I also had to fill my adventure appetite, and have yet to find a better country for this than South Africa. For 6 nights, I stayed in $10/night hostels and read, journaled, prayed, hiked, mountain biked, went white-water tubing, etc. This country continues to amaze me with it’s natural beauty. Enjoy the pics.
We begin our next round of classes on Monday, and with all of the visitors coming and the additional projects I have acquired since being here, the remaining 3 months will be busy, but fun.
