Homecoming
En route to Mamelodi this morning, we passed over the N4 highway that separates the two worlds of South Africa. Not unlike railroad tracks, roads, or other physical barriers that separate races & socioeconomic classes in the US; however, the contrasts are more drastic. It felt completely natural to enter the township since that is where I was so welcomed during my trip in 2005. This welcome would be no different. At first, I was introduced to the church as “Will Smith”, and as quick as the associate pastor could correct himself, the congregation broke out in laughter. Oh, the irony. I told them not to expect any Will Smith moves out of me. Dancing is kinda a big deal down here!
